Our Tours

Buffalo Trace Distillery has been following the global spread of Covid-19 which has allowed us to refine and progressively implement our plans as the incidence of the virus continues to ramp up.

We are thrilled to announce we will be reopening to visitors on July 1. We are implementing many new procedures to ensure the maximum safety for our visitors and staff. Take a look at a complete list of “What to Expect” when you visit the Distillery. You can also see for yourself in this video.

  • The Trace Tour

    The Trace Tour is an incredible introduction to the history and science of bourbon at Buffalo Trace Distillery. You will walk amidst the path of rolling bourbon barrels. You will be captivated by the alluring smell and atmosphere of bourbon sleeping inside the aging warehouses. Our engaging tour guides can teach guests of all levels and will bring the story of Buffalo Trace to life.

    The Trace Tour is open to all ages and is ADA accessible.

  • Bourbon Barrel Tour

    Move alongside our barrels during their journey throughout the Distillery. Learn about the specifications and history of our barrels, the different ways they age, and what happens to them when they can no longer be used for bourbon. Finish it all off where they finish, in regauge where our barrels are dumped.

    For safety purposes, this tour is not available for guests under 12 years old.

  • Old Taylor Tour

    Take a walk through bourbon history alongside E.H. Taylor Jr., the man who revolutionized the industry. From the Old Taylor House; to the OFC Building and OFC Fermenter #7, nicknamed "Old Taylor"; and finally to Warehouse C, you will see both the remnants and still-standing structures of what Taylor built, learn about his desire for perfection and purity in the bourbon making processes, and how he helped craft the industry as it is today.

    Tour route includes stairs and there is a lot of walking involved. Comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended. Those with acrophobia and/or fear of walking across metal grates may want to seek a different tour. For safety purposes, this tour is not available for guests under 12 years old.

  • Expansion Tour

    Join us this summer for our Expansion Tour, a limited-run tour that explores the backside of our Distillery and the various areas we are expanding as we make room for our growing whiskey production! Don a hard hat to investigate where we’ll be expanding to allow for more room to ferment, distill, and bottle our award-winning whiskies while learning about our future plans.

    This tour replaces our traditional Hard Hat tour this summer, as those areas will be under construction and not accessible. For safety purposes, this tour is not available for guests under 12 years old..

    All tours are complimentary and include a tasting of some of our award-winning products.

    Space on the tour is limited. Reservations are required.

  • Ghost Tour

    According to lore, there are more spirits residing at the Distillery than those aging in the warehouses. Featured on the popular TV show “Ghost Hunters,®” Buffalo Trace Distillery has long been rumored to have visits from the supernatural, most notably the ghost of Col. Blanton. Hear the legendary stories and get a look into the more haunted sites, including the rarely visited Stony Point Mansion where Col. Blanton died in 1959.

  • Hard Hat Tour

    An insider’s look into the behind-the-scenes work that goes into crafting truly great bourbon.  See the distillation process first hand-from the grain delivery and mashing in our recently installed 20,000 gallon mash cookers, to fermentation and distillation.  The tour includes a stop at the E.H. Taylor, Jr. Microstill, where the Distillery’s unique and award-winning Experimental Collection whiskies are made.

    Tour route includes stairs, elevated grated flooring, tight corridors, and  a good bit of walking . Comfortable shoes and clothing are recommended.  Those with acrophobia and/or fear of walking across metal grates may want to seek a different tour.   • National Historic Landmark Tour

    Albert B. Blanton’s legacy lives on through this educational and informative tour.  Described “as a rare, intact example of a distillery operating before, during, and after Prohibition,” experience the buildings, architecture and history shaped by Blanton from 1933-1953, which is the period of significance on which our National Historic Landmark distinction is based.
